Salalah travel guide – Sightseeing

Salalah is the capital of  Dhofar region and the second largest city in Sultanate of Oman. The city is special with it’s natural mysteries and subtropical climate especially during the khareef season (monsoon season between July and September). Although the climate is sunny and very hot in the Gulf region from July to September, in Salalah is monsoon and appealing.  During this time, tourists and locals visit Salalah to enjoy verdures, streams and the misty sky in the heart of the desert as well as the annual Khareef festival.

The majestic Dhofar Mountains and the sandy beaches make this land even more attractive and amazing. So, if you are passionate about wild nature, adventurous walks and lush plants, Salalah is your best destination around the Gulf area.

Exploring Wadi Darbat:
 Wadi Darbat is one of the most fascinating natural parks in Oman and the Arabian peninsula. Known for its wealthy green vegetation, the place is like a green carpet decorated with beautiful lakes. The view is mind-blowing with waterfalls, mountains and caves making from the valley a place of meditation and a source of inspiration. 

Visiting the museum of the Frankincense Land: 

If you are a history lover, you should stop at the museum of the Frankincense Land and discover Salalah’s and Oman’s rich history. Containing two major halls, the museum is well organized and parceled. It presents a variety of exhibits covering Salalah’s maritime history, the whole history of Oman and even the recent Oman’s renaissance. 

Visiting Al-Baleed Archaeological Park:

Al-Baleed is one of the most popular Salalah’s sites that gives the visitors the chance to dive more deeply into the history of Oman. You can explore the Omani heritage and old settlements and discover the Grand Mosque and  the remains of ancient ports of Khor Rori. The park at night is very charming when the lights illuminating the place.
Shopping from Al-Husn Souq: 

Located near to the sultan’s palace, Al-Husn Souq is a traditional street market in Salalah. The visitors can buy souvenirs, traditional clothes, jewellery and perfumes. the Souq have an entire section specialized in frankincense, which is a main industry in Salalah.

Discovering the coast at Al-Mughsayl :

 The Al Mughsayl beach is an awesome place for a refreshing tour. It’s exceptional with its whopping rocks full of holes and it’s mysterious caves. Visitors can live an amazing experience walking on rocks, hearing the water sounds and contemplating the nature and blowholes.
